FreeLaserCut
Privacy policy
Last updated: 3 November 2026
FreeLaserCut does not collect, store or send any personal data. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no telemetry.
- Your files (projects, images, settings, material library, camera calibration) stay on your computer, in the folders you choose and in
%APPDATA%\FreeLaserCut.
- Your laser is controlled over a local USB/serial connection or, if you choose a Wi-Fi laser, over your home network directly to the laser's address. Nothing goes over the internet.
- The camera, if you use it, is read only on your computer to show the bed. Images are never uploaded.
- Optional AI assistant (Claude Desktop, MCP): only if you turn it on yourself. The program then accepts commands from Claude Desktop on your own computer only (127.0.0.1, with a token). What you write to Claude is handled by Anthropic under its own privacy policy.
- Flame guard (optional, off by default): the camera images are analysed only on your computer during the job. If a flame is detected, one photo is saved in the local diagnostics folder; nothing is sent.
- Phone control (optional, off by default, only until you close the program): the program serves a page on your home network so that a phone on the same Wi-Fi can see the progress and the camera, pause or stop the job and send a photo of the material test. It answers only to devices of the local network, the address contains a random code, and nothing goes over the internet. The photo you send stays on your computer.
- Links in the program (project page, donations) open in your web browser only when you click them.
- Update check (Windows installer version only, optional): only if you allow it at the first start, or when you choose Help → Check for updates…, the program asks api.github.com which is the latest published version of FreeLaserCut, at most once a day. No data about you or your projects is sent; as with any web request, GitHub sees your IP address. Nothing is downloaded unless you confirm. The Microsoft Store version never does this: it is updated by the Store.
